MY PRACTICE
My artistic practice has been moulded by the landscapes surrounding me; not only the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas but further afield, such as The Grampians and Flinders Ranges, and beyond. Printmaking to me interrogates the formality of the surface, the depth of the line, gazing into the multiplicity of the medium; the flow of the process is as important as the final result. The hand of the artist is apparent at every stage. Printmaking is my chosen medium, mostly lino. I have recently ventured into the dark art of ceramics, where I recreate whimsical versions of the ferries and light houses. I also create watercolours and drawings as source material and as completed works. My sketch books are constantly in use, again as source material and finished works. I grew up around the edges of Port Phillip Bay; my childhood was spent on the beaches, waters and in the bush of the Mornington Peninsula, exploring with my siblings and cousins. We regularly got the ‘Little Blue Ferry’ between Sorrento and Portsea or across to Queenscliff. Adventures to Cape Schank Lighthouse featured every summer as a grand outing. I mentally refer to a wide range of artists, such as J.M.W. Turner for his skies, Anita Lawrence’s narratives in her lino cuts, Eugene von Guerard for his exploration and interpretation of the unknown, John Wolseley for his scientific rigor, Sue Anderson for her lyrical palette and more besides. I love maps and see my work visually mapping my environment as I travel through it, as a timeline and record of my continuing journey.
All the art works here are original works of art; each has been created by me, none use digital imaging or AI. They are not available as digital files, only as physical pieces. The works can be mailed anywhere in the world. You can own an original art work for not much more than a mass produced piece which has never had interaction with the artist.
Artists prints are repeatable images, which means that generally there are about 10 in each edition; this means you can purchase one or two and they are both original. In the lower Left Hand corner is a fraction, for example 2/10. That means there are 10 versions of that print made and this is the second one. Other prints amy have U/S for Unique State which means although printmaking methods have been used this is the only version exactly like that.
